DK5BD is the official callsign of the station. I am a licenced radio amateur since 1967. The required examinations have been passed at GPO in Kiel. I operated a small amateur radio station in Hamburg before I went to Zambia in southern Africa. There I applied for a permission to operate an amateur radio station from Zambia and received from the General Post Office (GPO) the callsign 9J2BR. I operated the station in the capital city Lusaka until 1971.
As from 1971 I lived in Germany but was ready to go to Africa again in 1979. This time to the Sudan. Here I operated the station under the call DK5BD/ST2 until 1981.
